CHRISTMAS SEASON OFTEN BRINGS BACK MEMORIES…

By Dr. Hal Kitchings

What do you think about this time of the year? The sights, sounds, and even the smells of Christmastime are so profound. Personally, I love it! One reason is because my mama loved it. She enjoyed decorating, wearing Santa gear, and being sure she represented Christ to others. Yes, I miss her, but I know she’d want me to carry on

I DON’T KNOW WHO OR WHAT YOU MAY BE MISSING THIS YEAR, BUT I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO CARRY ON

I in no way want to underestimate the pain you may be going through right now. Some of you have experienced a loss recently and it’s fresh. I get it! And it’s ok. God gave us our emotions and He uses time to help us work through grief. But it may be others continue to focus on the past a little too much. If so, I want to challenge you to allow the memories to stay “in check.” Smile about them. Thank the Lord for them. AND make new ones! Those that loved us dearly, with the love of Christ, would want nothing more than for us to carry on their traditions built on Kingdom principles.

For example, my mom loved visiting the Nursing Homes—especially during December. I’m going (soon) to try to do exactly what she modeled before me—though I can never do it as well. People need people—especially during this time of the year. As wonderful as this season is, some folks are lonely.

Jesus said, "And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded." (Matthew 10:42)

Who needs water today? Let’s not miss them because of being too focused on the past. Smile about years gone by and carry on, my friend!

Merry Christmas!
